Shard End Communities 
My father was called Fred Miles and was born in 1908. At the time of the removal of the Griffins from Lewis’s to Yorkswood he was a King’s Scout. He recalled that he and other senior scouts helped to remove the Griffins to Yorkswood and particularly recalled how difficult it was to get them onto the lorry or trucks that had been provided and then putting them upright at their destination. There were no health and safety rules then! He had many happy memories of camping in the woods and was at the international world scouts’ jamboree that was held there. A few years before he died, in 2004, I took him to Shard End and he chuckled when he saw the Griffins again. I have a picture of him leaning on one.
Wow, Roger, your Dad lived to a very good age and obviously had some wonderful memories. It would be great to see that photograph of your Dad with the Griffins. Could you upload it onto here, I’m sure lots of people would like to see it.
